Wheat Harvest

Decorated by Sidonka Wadina Lee, 1991

Sidonka Wadina-Lee worked extensively with straw decoration. In the Slovakian tradition, the use of straw is symbolic of the wheat harvest and also demonstrates the craftsmanship and patience of the artist. The straw is flattened, cut into short strips, and applied in geometric patterns. The designs on these eggs all contain a sun-like motif, which celebrates the return of spring.
