Besides religion, ethnic heritage is an important feature of decorated eggs. The poppy and wheat designs on these eggs represent the Ukrainian homeland. The red poppy is a familiar and beloved symbol of joy and beauty for the Ukrainian people. Wheat is a staple crop of the Ukraine and symbolizes hopes for a good harvest and good health.
