HISTORY POSTER
Manifest Destiny
opular mythology of the
19th century held that European settlers were
destined to conquer and inhabit North America from sea
to sea. The theme appeared in many graphic variations,
including this poster based on Emanuel Leutze's fresco
in the United States Capitol, "Westward the Course of
Empire Takes Its Way."
