La Pointe, WI – Madeline Island Museum, one of the Wisconsin Historical Society’s historic sites and museums, is now open for the spring season. The museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. until summer hours begin on July 4, 2022. General admission tickets are available for sale online.

“No visit to the area is complete without a stop at the Madeline Island Museum,” said Keldi Merton, site director. “We are excited to welcome visitors back for an exciting spring and summer with a variety of engaging special experiences, events and new exhibits.”

The general admission experience starts in the Capser Center where guests begin their visit by watching an educational video detailing the history of the island. From there, guests move on to a self-guided tour of the Capser Gallery featuring two new exhibits that share stories of Ojibwe culture and persistence. These contemporary art exhibits feature the works of internationally recognized Red Cliff Ojibwe artist Rabbett Before Horses Strickland, as well as the beadwork created by Ojibwe youth from several bands and communities. The general admission experience also includes access to the original museum space containing an amazing collection of artifacts.

The site will host a Visitor Appreciation Weekend featuring half-priced admission to the museum on June 4-5, 2022. On June 15, 2022, the Madeline Island Speakers Series will kick off, featuring lectures on a variety of fascinating topics every Wednesday evening through August 24, 2022. Madeline Island Museum also has three artists-in-residence this summer, offering visitors the chance to interact with traditional working artists on select weekends.

On July 4, 2022, the site will host guests for a day of fun and celebration at A Day on the Green: Traditional Madeline Island 4th of July. Then, on July 8-10, 2022, Connecting Cultures: Exploring the Lake Superior Fur Trade will take place on site featuring a juried group of reenactors who interpret the 1790-1840 La Pointe fur trade.

Tickets are also on sale for the Lost La Pointe walking tour taking place on Wednesdays in July and August.
