NOTES
Additional Information:"This building was built as a hotel in 1894 by Max Weinand. The cornice has been removed and the ground floor remodeled but its still retains a touch of its late nineteenth century character although not to the degree of the old Pilot and Echo building just to its north." West Bend Historic Building Tour, Rathbun Associates, undated. In 1987, the building was occupied by The Main Exchange.
Bibliographic References:West Bend Historic Building Tour, Rathbun Associates, undated. In 1893, fire destroyed Weinand’s earlier hotel, “Hot Fire at West Bend,” The Weekly Wisconsin (Milwaukee, WI), 16 September 1893, 7; Tax rolls, City of West Bend, 1893, 1894; Newsbrief (re: hotel construction), Washington County Pilot, 25 April 1894. The one-story addition to the south is not evident on the 1928 (updated to 1945) Sanborn map; however, it appears to be extant as of a 1950 aerial.
