| Additional Information: | Located on the northerly half of the island and closer to the west shoreline, this octagonal structure is set on a stone slab. Eight stone supports with stylized “capitals” support a largely flat roof (with a central tent) that is covered in copper. Decorative exposed wooden rafters accent the roof’s underside, while sawn wooden trim extends between each support. Designed by the Milwaukee architectural firm of Clas, Shepherd & Clas, this structure was originally built by contractor J.W. Brennan in 1927 as the park’s bandstand. When built, it was first located northeast of the current (1954) bandshell. In circa 1954, the bandstand was deconstructed and reconstructed as a gazebo at its current location, albeit without the brick basement and metal railing. |
