ROUND WINDOWS W/ STILTED LINTELSCORBELLED ROUND ARCH FALSE FRONTTRANSOMS OVER DOOR 2022 - This Commercial Vernacular building was constructed of cream brick in 1878. Located on a corner lot, the two-story building faces east, with a secondary elevation facing south. The building has a gabled roof behind a Palladian-arched pediment and an unknown foundation. The primary façade is symmetrically arranged, with the central entryway, accessed via a set of round concrete stairs, flanked by sidelights and large display windows with arched transoms overhead. The storefront features the original carved wooden columns and detailing and is sheltered by a flared-roof awning suspended by cables from the second story above. Both the round concrete steps and flared awning appear to have been in place since the 1940s. Three round-arched windows are arranged symmetrically across the second story of the primary elevation, containing two-over-two sashes and round brick hood molds. A datestone with the date of construction and the name of the organization is located in the rounded pediment above (Salem Lodge, NR 42, I.O.O.F., 1878). The cornice contains several raised brick bands which follow the line of the arch as well as a band of brick modillions. The southern elevation contains a series of evenly-spaced round arched windows in the second story, while a window or entrance near the rear of the first story has been bricked in. A one-story addition has been constructed at the northwest corner of the building. |
