Additional Information: | 2022: This two-story municipal building was constructed in 1901. It is clad in aluminum and vinyl siding and is on a concrete foundation. The cross-gable roof is covered with asphalt shingles. A tall, rectangular, interior, brick chimney is towards the (south) elevation. Windows are vinyl and metal, one-over-one, double-hung along with glass-block windows. A corner entrance is at the northwest corner of the building, with a vinyl-clad bell tower with a cross-gable roof fixed above the entrance. A one-story, two-bay, brick garage addition is at the east elevation, and a one-story brick addition is at the south elevation. According to Life in Theresa, the Theresa Municipal building was originally constructed as the village hall in 1901. It was built into the hillside at the corner of Milwaukee and Henni Streets, and wooden steps at the side of the building allowed access to the second story. When a fire destroyed the original Theresa Fire Department storage building, the first floor of the village hall became home to the fire department. The main entrance of the firehouse was moved from the west to the north side of the building when the hall was remodeled in the 1930s. The hillside steps at the northeast corner of the building were removed when the new fire station was constructed in 1963. The second story was used for village meetings, recreational activities, and various club meetings. |
