Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. SUPERB T-PLAN GREEK REVIVAL STYLE FORMER FARMHOUSE THAT THE NEIGHBOR ACROSS STH 23 SAID WAS BUILT CA.1851. THE TWO-STORY-TALL SIDE GABLE FORM MAIN BLOCK OF THE HOUSE HAS CORNER PILASTERS AND PEDIMENTED GABLE ENDS. THIS FARM WAS OWNED BY ROBERT & JOSEPHINE ALLEN FROM 1847 UNTIL WELL AFTER 1870, WHICH WAS THE YEAR THAT ALLEN RETIRED FROM FARMING AND THE COUPLE MOVED TO RIPON, IN FOND DU LAC COUNTY. IT IS ALMOST CERTAIN THAT THE HOUSE WAS BUILT FOR THE ALLENS BETWEEN 1847 AND 1870, BASED ON A STYLISTIC ANALYSIS, AND SINCE THE ALLENS WER MARRIED IN 1860 IT SEEMS LIKELY THAT THE HOUSE WAS BUILT AROUND THAT TIME. |
