TURRET W/ PYRAMIDAL ROOF [Date Cnst:CA]. 2ND STORY ADDED IN 1933 The Jacobus Building, constructed in 1924, was initially a single-story building constructed over the slope down to the Menomonee River to the south. The building was built by the Jacobus family to accommodate the Wauwatosa Fuel and Supply Company that provided fuel oil and furnaces. A second story addition was added to the building in 1933. From 1936 to 1940, the building contained city offices as well. The Jacobus business continued to expand through the 1940s and 1950s, constructing additional buildings, tanks, and warehouses on the opposite or south side of the Menomonee River. The Wauwatosa Fuel and Supply Company became known as the Jacobus Quickflash Company in the 1960s. |
