Additional Information: | DESCRIPTION: This house is a one and one-half story Bungalow with a rectangular shaped plan configuration, a brick foundation, a clapboard exterior, a wood trim and an asphalt shingled, intersecting low-pitched gable roofline. The wide eaves of the roof are decorated with small knee-brace bracktes. The clapboards are very narrow and most of the windows are small double-hung sashes. The front facade windows are tripartite windows with a large conter window flanked by two smller double-hung sashes. The main entrance is a simple wood and glass door. The full front porch is supported by flared brick piers. The balustrade is sided. This house, which is in good condition, has as a related struture -- a garage. ARCHITECTURAL/ENGINEERING SIGNIFICANCE: The house contributes to the architectural significance of the Prospect Hill Historic District as a good example of the Bungalow style. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: This house was built in 1920 for Errol and Bertha Winter, who lived there until around 1930. Errol Winter was a grocer. Between 1931 and around 1960, Charles and Jessie Tyler lived in the house. Charles was a factory worker at Parker Pen. (See Bib. Ref. A). HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This house has some historical interest as the home of the Winter and Tyler families. |
