Additional Information: | International style factory has strips of windows wrapped around the building shapes. 2016- "This sprawling International Style industrial plant consists of numerous periods of construction and generally is three stories in height. Continuous bands on each floor of metal-framed industrial windows encircle the building with the space in between clad with greenish-colored metal siding. A flat-roof awning shelters a loading dock near the southeast corner and gabled, metal-clad warehouses extend from the west elevation. Numerous modern utility structures are located on top of the roof. Various metal tanks and pipes of modern construction are situated along the plant's western and northern elevations. The first phase of this plant was built in 1950 by the Plastics Engineering Company, which was founded in 1934 in Chicago and moved to Sheboygan later that year. The company manufactured moldings from various resins and other compounds. The firm’s first plant on Geele Avenue was expanded several times and additional capacity was created by the construction of the subject facility, which was designed by Sheboygan architect W.C. Weeks. The plant received at least nine additions in the 1960s and 1970s. The company still operates the facility under the name of Plenco." -"North Ave: Calumet Dr (west) to N 15th St (east)", WisDOT#4996-01-78, Prepared by Heritage Research, Ltd. (Faltinson), (2016). |
