Additional Information: | One story structure with open eaves and elbow brackets; end parapet wall has buttresses and stone coping. Sympathetic one story addition, c. 1965-1970. The Brother Dutton School was constructed in 1926, and was named after Brother Joseph Dutton who grew up near Janesville, served in the Civil War, and after a failed marriage and a bout with alcoholism entered the Trappist monastery at Gethsemene in Kentucky as a lay brother. Subsequently, he followed Father Damien to serve the rest of his life at the leper colony on Molokai, Hawaii. He never saw this building, although he did not die until 1931. |
