Additional Information: | Mason was Nels Lund. Garwin A. Mace erected this building as an addition to the Van Vechten Block in 1909. Mace was a lime manufacturer and first village president; he left the area in 1919. The building originally was planned to house four separate stores and office space for Mace. It was also constructed to allow for a future second story. M.A. Schmoyer's men's wear business, previously in the Van Vechten Building, moved here in 1909. From 1910-1925, the building housed a music shop, clothing store, dry goods and general merchandise store. By 1927, Fred Leschuck retailed shoes here. The original storefront with three Main St. entrances and an east side entrance have been greatly altered or eliminated. |
