Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. Builder was Chester Clark. Cobblestone construction with an addition to the front. Lost integrity prior to 1975. The original house was a four-square hip roof cobblestone construction, with stone quoining. The two-story (c. 1848) on a limestone foundation has eyebrow attic windows under a hip roof, which must have lost its bracketing and eave depth. A two story hip-roofed wing from 1859 on its east side was also of cobblestone, though of darker color, and quoining. The house has lost integrity primarily through the addition to the front and rear of the original structure. The side wall of the wing has been altered at several stages through the addition and removal of windows, showing no mercy to the original cobblestone nature of the wall. Its continued existence, in a commercial area, is tenuous. |
