NOTES
Additional Information:CLASSICAL ENTRY. Rear addition and east wing were added before 1910. North addition was completed in the 1950s. By 1860, Francis Hoenig established his tailor shop in the buildinh utilized presently as Betsy's Restaurant. He had been in business since at least 1857. A Prussian immigrant, he married the daughter of Francis Waterlin, owner of a hotel in Menomonee Falls next to which he placed his building. By 1876, and maybe as early as 1873, his business was listed as the "hoenig and Lohn Clothing Store", suggesting that he not only operated as a craftsman but also as a retailer of clothing. As early as 1870, the Federal Census listed his business as a manufacturing establishment. In that year, Hoenig and one employee produced 50 coats, 150 vests and 150 pants worth a total of $1,250.93. By 1879, Francis Hoenig is listed separately from W. Lohn, then a retailer of boots and shoes. According to tax records, L. Debus owned the building from 1885 until his death in 1895. Witting and Gettlemen owned the building by 1900. The Gettleman Brewing Co. maintained a tavern in the building from prior to 1910 to the 1920s.
