The first meeting of the first Congregational Church was held at the Primitive Methodist Church in March 1848. This stone structure was built during the period 1849 to 1853. An audience of 250 people could be seated. This building continued to be used until 1895 when a larger church was erected just west. The last congregational service was held in November 1926. This older structure in the meantime had been used as the high school basketball court. The building has served a number of purposes, but is now in ruins. |
