Additional Information: | Frame Victorian cottage that has interesting gabled roofs with decorative iron cresting along the ridge and a pedimented roof gable. Decorative pediments that servs as window heads, a bay window and fish scale shingles in the pedimented gable ends accent the clapboard structure. Decorated brackets on the turned posts of the side porch further characterize the Victorian structure. Like the Victorian cottage, the carriage house (LT 15/26; separate record) has fish scale shingles in its gable ends and has a small cupola on its roof. As a representative of the Victorian Gothic cottage in wood, the cottage and its dependencies are good examples of 19th century living. The cottage is important to the community of Shullsburg because it is the best example of a Victorian cottage in its original condition in Shullsburg. |
