In 1858 at a farm near-by, Hohn J. Smith produced the first cheese on a comercial basis in Sheboygan Co.; this building , built in 1867 by L. P. Fischer and Manning McKinnon and now a residence, was the first factory built exclusively to produce cheese in the county.
