NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' titled "Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Complex" exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. 1982 - This church building covered by a sloping roof that flattens over the rear of the structure has side elevations of coursed, rough cut-stone and a facade of coursed, smooth dressed stone. A square bell tower of cut-dressed stone added in 1948 extends to the east from the front side of the church. Pointed Gothic stained glass windows and door portal and a round rose window penetrates the front facing gable facade that is original to the 1868 structure. An extension of the original rectangular church to form an addition with rounded corners at the rear in 1902 has completely altered the original shape of the church. The removal of the old wooden Gothic influenced belfry originally placed at the front and center of the roof has further altered the original structure. Another one-story extension has been added to the west at the rear of the church.

Main structure built in 1868; addition in 1902; rectory in 1905; 1937 new floor, communion rail and exit added; tower and addition in 1948.

2016 - "The Holy Rosary Catholic Church complex contains a church [80682], rectory [232936], convent [73205], and elementary school [232937], and occupies a city block bounded by East Mary Street, East Harriet Street, Wells Street, and Main Street.

The Holy Rosary Catholic Church (AHI No. 80682), constructed in 1868, is a front-gable, rectangular-plan church with stone masonry walls resting on a stone foundation. The walls of the front facade are of coursed, dressed ashlar, while those on the side (east and west) elevations are of coursed, rough-cut stone. The gable roof is covered in asphalt shingles, and features a parapet wall with a stone cross at the apex on the front (south) facade. The church displays modest Gothic Revival influences, particularly on the front facade, which features tall, Gothic arch, stained-glass windows and a Gothic arch door portal. The main entrance consists of wood plank double doors and a Gothic arch transom. A stained-glass rose window is located in the peak of the south gable, and each of the side elevations features Gothic arch, stained-glass windows. A rounded apse addition in 1902 extended the sanctuary to the rear (north), and a square, three-story bell tower of rough-faced ashlar masonry was added at the southeast corner of the church c.1950. The bell tower is connected to the church by a two-story wing. An embossed cross medallion is inset in the stone above the flat stone arch of an entrance on the south elevation of the addition. Other fenestration include custom, fixed sash, stained-glass windows; tall, thin, stained-glass windows with Gothic arches; and Gothic arches with stone vent insets."
