NOTES
Additional Information:Description: Constructed in 1901 [A], this Dutch Colonial Revival styled house features a gabled entrance with a pedimented gable end. The aluminum/vinyl siding was applied to the exterior and many architectural details were removed in the course of the house's existance. Architectural/Engineering Significance: The Edwin A. Snyder House is not architecturally significant because of the addition of modern aluminum/vinyl siding to the exterior. The architectural significance of the Edwin Snyder Carriage House cannot be determined due to a lack of data as to architectural merit and incidence in Menomonee Falls. Historical Background: Edwin Snyder erected his residence on Grand Avenue in the Nehs' addition in 1901. [1]. Platted in 1866, the Nehs' addition was occupied by the town's businessmen. [2]. The grounds also include a carriage house (91/20). Immigrating from New York in 1834, Snyder's family settled in Granville in 1839. In 1858, he purchased and ran the family farm. Snyder retired from farming and moved to Menomonee Falls upon the construction of his Grand Avenue dwelling. During his retirement, Snyder participated in the local government school system. He owned the residence until at least 1907 and died in 1917. [1, 3]. The dwelling was owned by the Dr. B. F. Siewert family by 1940. [4].
