NOTES
Additional Information:Description: This two story Queen Anne styled residence is distinguished by an elaborate Eastlake spindle porch placed at an angle to the facade. Aluminum/vinyl siding has been applied to the exterior, eliminating some of the architectural details. Architectural/Engineering Singificance: The Mrs. Anne C. Greengo House is not architecturally significant because of the addition of aluminum siding to the exterior. The architectural significance of the Greengo Carriage House (W166 N8978 Grand Avenue, WK 91/16) cannot be determined due to insufficent data as to architectural merit and incidence in Menomonee Falls. Historical Background: Mrs. Anne Greengo erected her residence in 1899. [A, B, 1]. Platted in 1886, the residential Nehs addition contained primarily dwellings of Menomonee Falls businessmen. [2]. When her husband James Greengo died in 1896, Anne Greengo established her residence on Grand Avenue in Menomonee Falls. [3, 5]. Prior to 1896, the Greengos had lived on the family farm near Lisbon. [4, 5, 6]. Jennie Greengo was the wife of Alfred Baer, married in 1893. [9, 10]. The Greengo family participated in a joint business venture with Baer as the Baer and Greengo General Store between 1903 and 1917 (see WK 91/17, W166 N8990 Grand Avenue). [7, 8]. Ann Greengo died in 1917. [6].
