Additional Information: | Also previously called Papoose Lodge. "Nuncio Santini's bar not only looks bigger than the rest, it is bigger -- this building's lot is actually one and one-half times wider than the rest. In 1926, Santini paid $2,300 in taxes on this single building, one of the highest tax bills in the city. Of all the Lower Block bars, this one still looks the most like it did when it was built, complete with two intact storefronts. Like McRaniels, Santini also ran a hotel in this building, with 10 rooms on the second floor. The Santini family had been prominent in the tavern industry in Hurley for several years -- two Santinis were arrested in a Christmas week raid in 1920."
