Additional Information: | "Like many small resort owners, Irvin Schumaker, started in the resort business by renting the building that he initially built for his home in the early 1930s. By the 1940s, Schumaker had also acquired the tow cabins at Old Trail Resort, which no longer exists. Schumaker's earliest tourism business, however, was the Frontier Inn. As traffic through Springstead increased in the 1930s, demand for easy-to-reach travellers' lodging grew as well. For those who had not reached their destination, or who were "touring" without a set itinerary, a simple cabin along the road provided a welcome sight -- one they often did not find. The Frontier Inn, opened by Erwin Schumaker as a roadside restaurant and tavern in 1933, provided what they were looking for. By 1941, the Frontier Inn had five cabins for overnight guests. Today it retains its historical look and feel in the restaurant and lounge, plus includes as antique store and sports shop."
