NOTES
Additional Information:Description: The Edward Stark and Fred T. Moeller house has both Craftsman and Arts and Crafts influences. Distinguishing the structure are a bracketed pent roof in the front gable, beveled glass in a second story window, and a full-length balustraded porch. A side entrance is enclosed within a flat roofed bay. The residence was built in 1902. [A]. Architectural/Engineering Significance: The Edward Stark-Fred Moeller House is not architecturally significant because of the addition of asbestos/asphalt siding to the exterior. Historical Background: In 1902, Edward Starck sold the property adjoining his Cleveland Avenue residence to Frederick T. Moeller which he had pruchased the same year from William Schlagter. Stark assisted Moeller with the erection of his dwelling. [1, 2]. Moeller's house is located in the J. B. Nehs addition platted in 1886 and occupied primarily b Menomonee Falls businessmen. [3]. Edward Stark was a successful businessman associated with the general merchandise business in the 1890s, real estate development and the Wisconsin Sugar Company by 1900. [4, 6, 7, 8]. A native born German who immigrated to Port Washington, WI, with his parents in 1880, Moeller came to Menomonee Falls in 1899. Moeller was a barber, and in 1907, the Village clerk. [5]. By 1940, George Kuphal owned the residence.
