NOTES
Additional Information:"One of the few remaining resorts in the Mercer area started before 1930, Beaver Lodge was for decades one of the most prominent addresses in the region. Opened in 1926, Beaver Lodge was one of the first in the area built for year-round occupancy, although even the cheerleading Mercer newspaper, the Forester, had to admit in 1932 that there were no winter tourists yet. Beaver Lodge's longtime owners, Wallace and Peggy Krumdick, lived in Chicago part of the year -- their yearly arrival at their lodge was noted in the Forester's local news column, an honor awarded to few resort owners. By 1938, Beaver Lodge had added housekeeping cabins, in addition to its American Plan Resort. The American Plan, where all meals are provided by the resort, was popular in Iron County in the 1920s, since few restaurants were available and travel could be difficult. But by the 1930s, most of the increasing numbers of auto tourists preferred to do their own cooking, keeping the cost of their vacations as low as possible."
