| Additional Information: | "This resort is an excellent example of an auto-oriented business. Like many resorts owners, George Holst built his resort nearly single-handedly, using wood from the trees he had to cut down to make room to build. When he first opened in 1938, Holst had six cabins, plus his home -- he added a couple more in the late 1940s or 50s. He also built a bar by the lakeshore in true "rustic style" -- using horizontal and vertical logs and boulders to create what he must have considered the expected Northwoods look."
