Additional Information: | RESURVEYED 2008: MAIN ENTRANCE HAS BEEN ALTERED WITH IN-FILL WINDOWS AND BUBBLE AWNING; SECOND FLOOR WINDOWS CHANGED TO SLIDING GLASS DOORS "The Hotel Mercer was built in the mid-1920s, along the still difficult but improving Highway 51. Until the 1940s, Highway 51 from Tomahawk to Mercer was a two-lane gravel and dirt road, which was better than many of the roads that faced early motorists, but still not altogether pleasant. The Hotel Mercer, run by Frank Borutta, advertised heavily in the short-lived Mercer newspaper, the Forester, and in other tourist publications, offering "Modern First-Class Rooms" and a "Restaurant serving meals at all Hours."
