Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. This bank was originally founded under the name of Sherman Park State Bank and the first president was Charles Stolper, Jr., head of the nearby cooperage (3232 W. FdL). In 1936, the structure's name had changed to Northern Bank; however, it continued as such until 1973, when it became affiliated with M&I. Two wing additions extend from the original block and are covered with Perma-Stone. These alterations were the product of architect, Von Grossmann. Drawings for the additions are on file at the Wisconsin Architectural Archive, Milwaukee, WI. A fine example of a 1920s Neo-Classical styled commercial building. Damaged by fire 2016. |
