NOTES
Additional Information:Typical 1920s terra cotta store facade with integrity of form and appearance.

2001- "Built in 1922, this three-story, three-bay commercial building has white, glazed terra cotta trim. All openings on the front facade have been infilled with the exception of the storefront, which has been modernized. Attached to and projecting from this facade is a vertical sign that reads, "Furniture, For Less, Sloan's." Similarly worded painted signage is located on the north facade, which consists of a solid brick wall.

The original building permit states that the S.R. Steel Company constructed this building in 1922 as Steel's Consolidated General Merchandise at a cost of $70,000. Seven years later, it was owned by the S.S. Kresge Company, which stored "household goods only on the second and third floors." The 1929 edition of Wright's Milwaukee City Directory describes S.S. Kresge Co. as a "5c 10c and 25c store." By 1955, Samuel S. Sloan owned the building where his business, Sloane's Furniture, has been located ever since."
