Additional Information: | This two-story rectangular building, constructed c.1860, is a large fieldstone commercial structure on a stone foundation occupying the corner of STH 144 and Silver Creek Cascade Road. The truncated hip roof is sheathed in asphalt shingles. Replacement double-windows and some brick-infilled openings exist on all four sides, and a number of additions and alterations have been made to the structure, including the one-story full-width addition that spans the facade. Purchased in 1909 by Charles Rietz, the owner of the distillery located nearby (see AHI Nos. 78784 and 78787 in this report), it was later converted into a saloon and also served as a hardware store and residence in the twentieth century. |
