Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. This building was razed in the mid-1990’s via a practice burn by the local volunteer Fire Department. This one and a half-story residence has a gabled ell style with kips. The dwelling features a rectangular shaped plan configuration, a concrete foundation, a wood frame construction, an aluminum/vinyl sided exterior, a wood trim, and an asphalt shingled jerkinhead roof. A basement is also included in the architectural design. Other buildings, demolished at an unspecified date, were also part of the Kettle Moraine Fish Hatchery complex. These buildings include a 1920 one-story shed parking structure, a 1940 two-story animal shelter and a 1920 one-story pawning house. All structures were previously owned by Winton Benjamin. Description of Complex: The Kettle Moraine Fish Hatchery (13 20E-10) is located on Cherry Hill Drive, two miles northwest of Batavia in Sheboygan County. Most of the buildings within this complex are fairly new since the older buildings were demolished. The hatchery buildings are all in good condition, but the residence which greets you upon entering the fish hatchery is only in fair condition. The residence, constructed in 1940, has been sided with aluminum/vinyl siding and has a jerkinhead roof shape with asphalt shingles. The rest of the hatchery and its raceways, which are in good condition, are located approximately 1/4 mile northeast of the residence. |
