2022 WisDOT survey write-up:
This L-shaped, Tudor Revival-style house is sheathed with a combination of heavily mortared stone, stucco and false half-timberwork, as well as brick. The steeply-pitched roofline is covered with asphalt shingles and a dominant chimney rises along the west side of the front-facing gabled wing. The home’s central section features a wooden door with strap hinges; rectangular sash windows flank the entry, while a pair of casement windows with diamond paning occupy the upper floor. The front-facing wing carries a pair of floor-to-ceiling, multiple-light windows, while a singular example is located along the second level, along with flanking wooden shutters. The gabled wing that extends to the east carries two floor-to-ceiling multiple-light windows above each of which extends a wall dormer with stucco and half-timber finish.
Constructed in 1938 at an estimated cost of $12,000, this house appears to have been built as an investment property for Henry Ball, who resided next door at 8025 W. Wisconsin Avenue. By no later than 1940, Clyde E. and Inez (Hamilton) Dalrymple were renting the subject house, which they would eventually purchase (by 1949). Born in 1891 in Keithsburg, Illinois, Clyde married Inez Hamilton in Warren, Illinois in 1913. As of 1917, the couple resided in St. Paul, Minnesota, at which time Clyde was employed at a car dealership. At some point in the next three years, he had entered into the business of car insurance. After moving to Kansas City, Minneapolis and Chicago, they settled in Wauwatosa sometime between 1935 and 1938. The 1940 census indicates that the Dalrymples had no children but did have a live-in maid. After selling the house between 1968 and 1969, Clyde and Inez died in 1971 and 1980, respectively. The next known owner was Robert O. Kuehn, vice president of the Otto L. Kuehn Company, who purchased the home by 1969. |
