Additional Information: | CONVERTED TO HOUSE [Date Cnst:(2ND BLDG)]. The B in the photo code stands for BKFD. Another Survey map name is City Engineer 10-1-92. In 1890, there were six schools in town, so distributed as to accommodate all the farms. Previous to 1851, children attended the Tew's school west of the Fox River on North Avenue. In 1851 work began on the first school house, District #4, on North Avenue and Brookfield Road. Built on Putney property, it was called Putney School or Putney Corners School. The building was crude; floors were rough sawed oak lumber, and seats were of pine boards. In 1876, a new brick building, the second Putney School was built on the same location. The old School house was moved north of the Methodist Church on Brookfield Road and serves as a residence today; it was significantly altered. The third and present building was built in 1932. [A]. |
