NOTES
Additional Information:DESCRIPTION: This two-story Greek Revival structure has seen numerous changes over the years. The main portion of the builidng is a rectangular mass covered with a gable roof. The gable end includes eave returns above a wide frieze. A massive chimney is centered on the (west) end wall; two windows flank the chimney at the second floor level. Fenestration on the (south) facade includes two small "belly" windows at the eave line; below are two pairs of windows and a single door (not the original main entrance). A related building is a 4 x 6 shed. ARCHITECTURAL/ENGINEERING SIGNIFICANCE: This residence is an example of the Greek Revival style. Although numerous alterations have been made, the structure retains elements of its historic integrity. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: In the 1873 Plat Map, G. W. Brown is listed as the owner of a property at this location. The Greek Revival structure however, probably dates from prior to the Civil War. At that time, the land was owned by W. D. Bacon. The 1859 Plat Map shows numerous houses on Bacon's acreage here. G. W. Brown was the postmaster and owner of a General Store at Brookfield Junction. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Further research should be undertaken to clarify the name of the builder of this property. The B in the photo code stands for BKFD. Another map name is City Engineer 10-1-92.
