Additional Information: | Little is known about this double storefront frame block. It was a furniture store between 1893 and 1899 under two different firms. It was the Central Trading Company general store between 1907 and 1927. This building has some historical interest as the location for several retail businesses. Initial research indicates no individual historical significance, but it does contribute to the development of commercial activity in the Main Street Commercial Historic District. Constructed of cream brick, this two-story rectnagualr commercial buliding continues to exhibit the plain projecting metal cornice found on an earlier facade. Altered by the addition of siding to the upper story, the building is further altered by multipaned replacement windows, exterior shutters and a remodeled store front of contemporary design that converted the two-store front to a single store front with an offset entrance on the west end. Iron balconies are located in front of two second-story doors situated in the two center bays of the facade. The former Central Trading Company is a vernacular cream brick building that has a facade that was altered and extended at the turn of the century and further altered by the addition of siding to the upper story of the facade. Although this building is not architecturally significant, it does contribute in a minimal way to the historic character of the proposed Main Street Historic District. |
