Additional Information: | FIELDSTONE SILO IN REAR. "At the time of the 1979 survey, an associated barn was adjacent to the silo. It has since been demolished. Although not survey in the 1970s, it is likely that at least two additional structures occupied the parcel along with the silo and the now, non-extant barn. They include a two-story, gabled ell house and a small animal barn. Although foliage obscures much of the property, elements of the house--which appear to be original--include clapboard siding, gable peak shinglework and decorative spindlework above the first-floor cutaway corners. The outbuilding, which is clearly visible from the roadway, rests on a partial stone foundation; although both are covered with vertical board. This property was originally part of a larger, 160-acre parcel owned first by Thomas and Mary Tempero. During the 1880s, the parcel was divided in half, with the northerly portion going to their fifth eldest child Charles Wesley. Charles, a single man, retained the property until at least 1914. In 1907, he was noted as having ten cows and was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Merton. However, by 1922, plats indicate that the parcel was owned by William C. Heling. He retained the 80-acre property until at least 1964. Thereafter, like the previous property, the area was significantly subdivided and ownership could not be ascertained." |
