Additional Information: | Resurveyed 2015. New metal roof; appearance otherwise unchanged. 2015- "This one-story house was built around 1920. The building is roughly rectangular in plan, with a projecting screen porch and a projecting bay window on its west side. It has a rock-faced concrete block foundation, aluminum siding, aluminum windows, and a modern metal hipped roof with two projecting brick chimneys. The house is one of many built as workers housing for the Goodman Lumber Company between 1910 and the early 1920s. Initially, the company rented these houses to employees, but when the Goodman company sold its operations in 1955, it sold the houses to their long-term tenants. Approximately 100 houses were built, most of which comprise the present-day village of Goodman. Five of the original workers houses had been previously surveyed. Since all five were altered to some extent, the three best examples were resurveyed. An informal visual survey suggested that most, if not all, of the workers houses in Goodman have been altered." - "Forest/Marinette county line- CTH O", WisDOT #1590-16-00/71, Prepared by UWM-CRM (2015). |
