NOTES
Additional Information:ROUND ARCHED DOORS AND ROUND ARCHED CASEMENT WINDOWS. JAPANESE INFLUENCE METAL SHEET MADE TO LOOK LIKE TILE ROOF W/FLARED EAVES AND PAGODA ON ONE END. PAGODA REMOVED 8/1990.

This small, one-story frame building is rectangular in plan and topped by a distinctive tile-covered pagoda-form hipped roof. The roof ridges are enhanced with barrel tiles. The boxed eaves overhang all four facades by approximately 4'; set under the eaves are sockets for light bulbs set singly about 2 1/2' apart. Two rafters with shaped lower edges support each eave corner; each rafter has a light socket at its end.

The building is sided with wide clapboards. Two large groups of windows flank a narrow door on the long facades; one short facade contains only windows and the other features a door and two single windows. All of the doors and windows are set within round-arched enframements (windows are now covered over with plywood, as the building is not in use).

This example of a small commercial building is an exotic revival style is unique in Brookfield Township. Although seemingly abandoned, the building retains much of its character through its arcaded windows and doors and distinctive pagoda-form flared hip roof.

This building is commonly known as "Landsberg's Barbecue". It was originally located at the intersection of Bluemound Rd. and Barker Rd., an area known as Goerke's Corners. According to the Township Assessor, it was built in 1910. It's distinctive pagoda style is not unlike a style popular for gas stations built in the early 20th century.

It has been suggested that a family named Spaeth owned the property before the Landsbergs. The Spaeths ran an ice cream stand at Goerke's Corners. During the 1930s, the building served as an early drive-up restaurant where ham, beef and pork sandwiches, mixed with Bill Landsberg's "secret" barbecue sauce, were sold.

The building was moved to its present location prior to construction of the I-94 expressway interchange at Goerke's Corners.

This small building is the only example of an early 20th century highway-related commercial building in Brookfield Township. It is the only remaining building that recalls the once-bustling Goerke's Corners community that existed near here at the turn of the century.

Has been moved and serves as the trailhead center for the Lake Country Recreational Trail at 2922 Golf Road.
