Additional Information: | Vestibule projects on to open flat roofed porch with dentil trim and tuscan columns and balustrade; two story gable roofed south bay with shingled gable end and bracket trimmed cut away corners on lower story; window cornices; decked rear porch on rear addition. Herman and Mary Oestreich. (A) This was the home of Herman Oestreich, a jeweler, between 1918 and at least 1930.(1) Initial research indicates that none of the occupants of this house are historically significant. This frame gabled ell house is important as an example of the vernacular gabled ell house form. Among the group of well-preserved gabled ell houses remaining in Watertown, this house exhibits exceptional integrity. Good examples of the gabled ell vernacular form include the frame houses at 115 Dewey St. (46-3) and 1206 W. Main St. (27-28) and the brick houses at 427 College (36-9), 400 No. Church St. (23-3), 137 So. Concord Ave. (32-15) and 303 So. 8th St. (38-29). 2023: Resurveyed, house has replacement windows. |
