Additional Information: | Vernacular Victorian frame with sloping roof accented with a bracketed pent roof and a two-sided spindle porch featuring a pediment decorated with an appliqued rising sun design. Intersecting gables, cut-out roof areas, an irregular porch roof profile, a bracketed pent roof over a champered bay and an oriel window combine to give a very irregular character to this frame, two-story structure. The two-sided, spindle decorated, off-center entrance porch featuring a pediment decorated with an appliqued rising sun design and supported by slender turned post adds further interest to this picturesque composition. Apparently the house has been sided and altered by an addition at the rear. This structure is significant to the community because it is one of three remaining houses that were designed by Dr. C. C. Gratiot, a local physician from a prominent family, an amateur architect, and a community leader. |
