Additional Information: | This building was constructed for the Frank Koser Bakery, which occupied the building until at least 1930. This building has some historical interest as the long-time location of the Koser Bakery. It was not an individually historically significant business but contributes to the overall development of commerce in the Main Street Historic District. Built in the first decade of the 20th century for Frank Koser to house his bakery, this small commercial building is characterized mainly by a flat roofed oriel window with paneled apron, pilaster mullions nd a leaded glass transom window placed on the south half of the facade. Exhibiting a dentil trimmed small wooden cornice with a band of corbelled brick along the lower edge, the facade also features a pair of rectangular windows ornamented by brick lintels accented by articulated keystones. The Koser Bakery has been altered by the addition of a completely remodeled storefront featuring a shingled pent roof and two entrance doors. A brick addition originally used as the bake house was added to the rear of the building between 1915 and 1926. The Koser Building is a late Italianate influenced commercial vernacular building characterized by a projecting cornice and an oriel window associated with the Queen Anne style. Although this building is not architecturally significant, the former Koser Bakery contributes to the historic character of the Main Street Commercial Historic District. |
