Additional Information: | The Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis had the grotto constructed during the summer of 1923. Designed as a faithful reproduction of the Lourdes Shrine by the DePrato Company of Chicago, the grotto was constructed by Frank Spalenka of Stevens Point. It is composed of tufa rock sourced from Cleveland, Ohio with statuary from the DePrato Company. The uppermost niche contains a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes, while a small stone altar is situated within the ground-level arch. A statue of the “Good St. Anne” is contained within the niche on the reverse side. The grotto was dedicated by Bishop Paul Rhode of Green Bay and was the site of the annual May Crowning ceremony where a wreath of flowers was placed on the head of the statue of Mary by the St. Joseph Academy Sodality of Our Lady society.
