Additional Information: | Downingesque house. This home was built in 1881 for Samuel Marsh. He was a local carpenter and lived in the home until his death in 1909. Marsh had been a resident of New London for over 50 years. His family's homestead was located where the present New London Golf Club is located. His wife, Ellen Marsh, lived in this home until she passed at the age of 93. Ellen grew up on the family homestead just south of New London. A sign along Highway 45 still marks the location of the family farm and the year it was established. Samuel and Ellen's son Sam lived in the home from 1945-1965. He was an accomplished professor of accounting at Washington University in St. Louis and an avid gardener. |
