The Fuhremann Canning Company started in Oostburg at the Oostburg Canning Company in 1900. In later years, the family opened plants in Sun Prairie, De Forest, Appleton, Berlin, and Lanark, Illinois.

John F. Fuhremann started the plant in Appleton in 1929. The plant started with 3 lines of peas and 2 lines of beets and carrots. The company became a corporation in 1931. The Fuhremann Cnning Company received a coveted "A" award for Agricultural Achievement on August 5, 1944, and also the additional "Star" to their flag in 1945. In 1947 the plant in Lanark, Ill. was acquired by the Minnesota Valley Canning Company and a few months later the plants at Berlin and Appleton became a part of Stokely-VanCamp, Inc.

There are 4 buildings all with concrete block foundations. 2 buildings have brick exterior walls, 1 has brick tile and is brick and wood.
