Additional Information: | Sanborn-Perris maps show that this small two-story brick Italianate style-influenced commercial building was built prior to 1904, at which time it contained a harness shop. The harness shop was still in the building in 1911 as well, but by 1938 it was occupied by an unspecified store. 1995- "Sanborn maps show that this ltalianate style-influenced Commercial Vernacular form two story polygonal plan building was built prior to 1904, and it is believed to be one of the district's earliest buildings. The building measures 50-feet-deep x 20-feet-wide and it has a cut stone foundation and brick exterior walls and its main facade faces north onto Main Street. No historic photos of this facade have been found, but much of it appears to be still intact despite the fact that the original nearly full-width storefront has now been modernized. The original display windows that once flanked the recessed and centered entrance have now been replaced with smaller one-light windows centered on wood panel infill sheets and most of the original elements of the entrance are also modern. Several important elements of the original storefront are still intact, however, including its full-width cast iron lintel and the two cast iron posts that support it. The second story of this facade is two-bays-wide and each bay contains a segmental-arched window opening, both of which now contain an early (and possibly original) one-over-one liqht double-hung window. ln addition, the original overhanging bracketed cornice that crowns the facade is also still intact. Sanborn maps show that this building was occupied by a harness shop In 1904 and 1911, but 1n 1938 it 1s shown as being occupied by an undefined store. This building is now occupied by the Family Tree Resale Shop and its largely intact." |
