Additional Information: | This home was constructed for George Elwood Lutsey Jr., who was reportedly the first white child born in New London in the year 1851. His father George Sr., was the first hotel owner in the city. In 1879, Lutsey Jr. took over the Algier Hotel, and in 1893, he built the Elwood Hotel. Lutsey Jr. remained in the hotel business until shortly before his death in 1933. In 1904, he, along with JC Hickey, had the Grand Theater built. In 1916, Hickey purchased Lutsety Jr.'s half of the partnership. |
