Additional Information: | Sanborn-Perris maps show that this two-story clapboard-clad Cross Gable form building was constructed prior to 1911 and that it was originally a double house. By 1922, however, the building had been converted into a single family residence and it remains one today. 1995- "Double House, VE26/8. Sanborn maps show that this very intact Cross Gable form two-story nearly square plan two-unit building was built prior to 1911 for an unknown owner, but that by 1922 it had been converted into a single family dwelling. The building has a rock-faced ashlar stone foundation and its exterior walls are clad in clapboards. The building is sheltered by an asphalt shingle-clad hip roof whose dominant features are the very large wall dormers that are centered on each elevation, a design feature that gives the building its Cross Gable form. Windows are one-over-one-light double hung wood sash throughout and the two front entrance doors that are centered on the main west-facing facade are both sheltered by an open front porch whose hip roof is supported by turned posts. The porch is also decorated with a spindle frieze below the cornice. Although this house appears to be in excellent near original condition, its ordinary design makes it unlikely that it would be individually eligible for inclusion in the NRHP." - "USH 14 Transportation Study ", WisDOT ID #1646-07-00, Prepared by Timothy F Heggland (1995). |
