NOTES
Additional Information:A TWO-STORY MID-19TH CENTURY GOTHIC REVIVAL HOUSE CONSTRUCTED OF DRESSED COURSED CUT-STONE THAT HAS A SLOPING ROOF INTERSECTED BY A STEEPLY PITCHED GABLE AT THE CENTER FRONT OF THE LONG SIDE OF THE HOUSE. DECORATIVE BARGE BOARDS ACCENT THE OPEN GABLE ENDS, UNADORNED WINDOW FRAMES AND SILLS, END CHIMNEYS AND A DECKED, BALUSTRATED FRONT PORCH SUPPORTED BY BRACKETED, CLUSTERED POSTS LEADING TO THE CENTRALLY PLACED ENTRANCE ARE FEATURES FOUND IN THIS LARGE STRUCTURE. A STUCCO STRUCTURE WITH A SLOPING ROOF INTERSECTED AT THE FRONT BY A GABLED FORM THAT HAS A PEDIMENTED, BRACKETED DOOR HOOD ADJOINS THE MAIN STRUCTURE TO THE WEST. A STONE STRUCTURE WITH A GABLE ROOF EXTENDS FROM THE MAIN HOUSE AT THE REAR. THIS SUBSTANTIAL STONE HOUSE IS ARCHITECTURALLY SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE IT IS A FINE EXAMPLE OF THE MID-19TH CENTURY GOTHIC REVIVAL STYLE. ALSO, THE HOUSE IS ARCHITECTURALLY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY AS THE BEST REPRESENTATIVE OF ITS EARLY STONE RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION IN ITS ORIGINAL STATE AND, VERY LIKELY, THE OLDEST STONE HOUSE IN THE COMMUNITY. THIS IS PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURE IN DARLINGTON.
