NOTES
Additional Information:This one-story Twentieth Century Commercial building was constructed c.1915. It is rectangular in plan with brown brick walls and a sloped roof hidden behind decorative triangular parapets. The building shares a party wall on its west side. The front elevation faces north and is asymmetrical in plan due to uneven fenestration across the first story where the original storefront has been covered or replaced with a wall of cement board siding with plain corner boards. A recessed entrance with a single-pane transom is located at the western end of the façade; west of this is a single-pane shop window with a cement-board bulkhead wall below. The storefront is sheltered by a new metal awning that spans the façade. Above this, an original iron lintel with decorative rosettes spans the façade as well; a joint at the center of the lintel marks the center of the façade where the historic building was divided into east and west storefronts. The wall above the lintel is defined by a series of recessed brick panels with dentilated brickwork along the top edge of each panel. Centered along the roofline above each half of the façade are two triangular parapets with metal coping.

This double storefront building was constructed c.1915 on the site of a small frame building that had long served as the village’s post office. Following the existing building’s completion, the post office relocated to a building at the northwest corner of Commercial Street and Center Street (today’s 15th Avenue; this building is no longer extant). By the 1930s, the post office had relocated to the western half of the subject building and would remain in the space until the village’s existing, purpose-built post office was constructed on Pearl Street in 1954. Meanwhile, the eastern half of the building hosted a variety of businesses, including a long-lived tavern and pool hall. In 1989, the building was purchased by Tralmer’s Dairy Service who utilized both retail spaces for the sales and service of dairy equipment. By this time, composition board siding had been installed along the center portion of the storefront with shop windows remaining at the far eastern and western ends. The composition board siding was later extended to cover the eastern shop window, the western shop window was replaced, and the existing metal awning was added over the storefront.
